Emily took up Mass Communications and Journalism at Maryknoll College and the University of the Philippines.
She joined McCann-Erickson Philippines as Creative Group Head in 1978. In January 1992, Emily was named President/Chief Executive Officer of McCann-Erickson Philippines, acknowledged as the leading advertising agency in the Philippines since 1987. An active lecturer in industry fora and the academe, Emily has occupied key positions in local 4A’s, TVRC, and the Advertising Board of the Philippines. She was the 1995 Agora Awardee for Marketing Management.
In January 1999, she assumed the Chairmanship of McCann-Erickson Philippines. Under her leadership, McCann rose to prominence for its creative product, its social awareness programs, and its business success, winning “Agency of the Year” five times in seven years. In May 1999, Emily received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Philippines’ Creative Guild.
She is among the few creative talents who have held top agency position, an accomplishment that was highlighted in August 2002 at the Ad Summit by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies-Philippines where she was honored as one of the “25 Mavericks in Philippine Advertising.” She retired in 2004, but stays on as Chairman-Emeritus at McCann.
Emily Abrera is currently Chairman of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and of CCI-Asia, the content-production company behind Living Asia Channel and Isla advocacy programs. She is President of (FOCI) Foundation for Communication Initiatives, Director of Pioneer Insurance, Bank of the Philippine Islands, and is a board member of: Museo Pambata (Children’s Museum), Children’s Hour Inc., Philippine Board on Books for Young People, Philippine Eagle Foundation, Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, and ABS-CBN. She is a founding member of the Women’s Business Council.
